C. W. "Wilbert" Brewer

Columbus Wilbert Brewer, born on March 18, 1927, in Pensacola, FL, peacefully departed this life on December 6, 2023, in Boaz, AL. A dedicated longshoreman by trade, Wilbert was a devout Christian and a beacon of love as a wonderful father. He shared a remarkable 66-year marriage with his first wife, Edna Mae Taylor Brewer, until her passing in 2018. Together, they were blessed with five children: Louise, Sue, Chris, Annette, and Michael. In 2019, he married Linda, who survives him. Wilbert, also known as CW, could literally do anything and together with his wife Edna, built many houses, completing every piece of construction from the foundation to plumbing and electric themselves. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S Army, serving in Germany immediately following WW2 as part of the occupation forces mission. He took great joy in the simple things that he could produce with his hands. He was a master gardener and loved to raise and spoil his cows on the farm. He loved to fish at his camp on the lake but preferred to spend more time with his grandkids teaching them to fish, handle a boat and playing games with them. He had an uncanny ability to find joy and happiness in hard work and daily activities. But, as much as he enjoyed these things, he loved God and his family first and foremost. He taught us all how to live and love God and family through his actions every single day. He was kind, humble, patient, hardworking and not only the patriarch, but the foundation of our entire family. He worked tirelessly to create amazing experiences for his children and grandchildren, helping to give them a life few get the pleasure of knowing. To use the cliché term “great man” simply does not capture Columbus Wilbert Brewer. He was far more than that to all of us. Wilbert is preceded in death by his beloved wife Edna Mae, son Michael Wilbert Brewer, sons-in-law Dusty Duff and Bob Barriner, daughter-in-law Patty Brewer, father Columbus Washington Brewer, mother Millie Lee Gunter Stacey, brothers Joseph Robert, William Leroy, Henry Edward, and Albert Brewer, as well as sisters Emma Louise Brewer Hadley and Edna Leola Brewer. He is survived by his wife Linda Brewer, children Edna Louise Barriner (Mack), Sue Ann Huffman (Ricky), Christopher C. Brewer (Karen), Annette Marie Kesler, stepdaughter Crystal Bolt (Nathan), and daughter-in-law Deborah Brewer. His brother George C Brewer (Faye) also survives him. Wilbert’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: April Young (Shane), Katie Chaffin (Darell), Michael Huffman, Chariss Dinwiddie (Daniel), Brent Brewer (Audrey), Mark Brewer (Torie), Adrian Kesler (Katryn), Trevor Kesler, Terra Dawson, JoShannon Perdew, and Alexander Bolt. Additionally, he leaves behind twenty-seven great-grandchildren and seventeen great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Honoring Wilbert as pallbearers are his grandsons, Michael Huffman, Brent and Mark Brewer, Adrian and Trevor Kesler and his great-grandsons, Dustin Chaffin, and Justin McComb His Funeral Service will be 11 am Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Boaz Carr Chapel with burial to follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.
